Philadelphia Trip

This week I had a meeting in Philadelphia: literally "a meeting" - as in, fly across the country and back to spend some quality time in a room with ~30 other people and then fly back. To make it seem more worthwhile, I decided to take in the sights in Philadelphia.

It was immediately obvious on stepping off the plane, that unlike Seattle, that Spring had indeed arrived in Philadelphia.

A stroll around the Old Town at dusk was very rewarding. I also noticed that there was an evening tour called Lights of Liberty which I signed up for and took at about 9pm. Although it was an informative and creative audio tour, the lighting special effects were quite lame. This shot is of Independence Hall. Down the road is Carpenters' Hall.

It felt a bit like "Old Europe": can't turn around without running into an ancient building. ;-)

Benjamin Franklin Parkway is quite spectacular: tree and flag lined avenue surrounded by museums and parks.

The Franklin Institute is one part exploratorium, one part science museum. Fantastic resource to take bus loads of school kids to.

This is the closest I have been to an original Wright Brothers' plane. Almost 100 years old and very impressive.

Across the road from my hotel:
Hard Rock Cafe for lunch
Comic book stand that sells only comics and local newspapers
Starbucks behind me
